AS SENATOR KAMESHA WILL P.R.E.S.S TO:

P – Protect

R – Restore

E-  Eliminate Blight

S – Strengthen our educational system

S – Secure

Create economic opportunities by prioritizing the problems with our infrastructure.

Mississippi’s aging infrastructure is also our biggest opportunity for economic growth. Focusing on and ensuring that Mississippi has the best roads, streets, highways and bridges, paves the way for new development throughout District 26. Ensuring clean water and adequate drainage is only an opportunity to put our students to work with careers that make Mississippi better. Prioritizing our problems in infrastructure with economic opportunities in mind will yield the following results:

  • More jobs in engineering and construction.
  • More opportunities for workforce development opportunities.
  • More opportunities for commercial and residential development.
  • Accessibility to places to shop, eat and have fun within our communities.
  •  More opportunities to retain our young people.

Protect and improve the public retirement system for the hard workers of Mississippi.

Growing up in Mississippi, we are taught to value and take care of those who have paved the way for us. After working for many years, our seniors and those who retire should be able to enjoy their family and take vacations. No retired public worker should fear or worry about retirement, after working and investing their time to improve public life in Mississippi. Improving and protecting PERS will yield the following results.

  •  Attract Mississippi’s youngest and brightest to work in public service.
  • Build confidence in our workforce to stop the bleeding from the public to private sector.
  • Ensure economic stability for families.
  • Keep our best and brightest students right here at home.

Expand public safety across the district, with a focus on supporting rural fire departments.

Public safety means much more than policing, it means investing in mental health services, youth programs and community-based solutions that prevent crimes. Often there is a focus on crime and fire safety in more populated areas. There is little to no focus on the support necessary to provide adequate response time in rural areas. The biggest concern is the response to emergency incidents such as fire, flash flood, inclement weather and such other incidents that threaten the health, well-being and safety of Mississippians. Expanding public safety will yield the following results.

  • Adequately increase the capacity of volunteer Fire Departments.
  • Reduce crime due to there being more visibility of public safety.
  • Create trust and confidence in response times when in need of emergency care.

Support and initiate policies to ensure quality education for all of Mississippi’s Children.

Every child, no matter what their zip code, deserves a great public education. Strong schools build strong communities, and investing in education is investing in our future. As senator Kamesha will fight for adequate education for all. This will focus on more funding for education from the investment in the child to the pay of the teacher. Investing and supporting policies and programming that focus on education will yield the following results.

  •  Address the digital divide by providing broadband internet access to give students access to online learning resources and digital tools.
  • Increase teacher recruitment and retention by equipping teachers with the tools necessary to provide quality educational experience for the child and providing competitive pay for the teacher.
  • Increase the involvement and engagement by more community and faith-based organizations.
